Connecting an LED


To get an LED working  you have to connect it in the right direction. The cathode or or negative leg (shorter) is the one that's connected to ground.

An LED has almost no resistance, so it's very important to add a resistor in series with it, otherwise a huge amount of current (voltage/0) will be drawn through it and burn it out fast.

The wikipedia page says the voltage drop for a red LED is 2V, write the calculation here.. So I picked a 1000 ohm resistor.
